Stop the Spread!!

We are in the middle of flu season and all over Texas, there are confirmed cases of the flu.  We do not have any confirmed cases of the Swine Flu at present at Westwood ISD but we do want to encourage you to use precaution to avoid an outbreak here.    In order to protect you and your family, we want to offer the following suggestions about preventing the spread of the flu.  Please teach your children how to stay healthy by promoting good hygiene techniques and share the following suggestions with them
.

  • Cover their nose and mouth with a tissue when they cough or sneeze—have them throw the tissue away after they use it.
  • Wash their hands often with soap and water, especially after they cough or sneeze. If water is not near, use an alcohol-based hand cleaner.
  • Remind them not to touch their eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs often spread this way
  • Keep your distance by at least 3 feet.  If you are near someone who is showing signs of the flu, social distancing will reduce your chance of infection.

Know the symptoms!  Flu symptoms include fever, headache, chills, body aches, tiredness, dry cough, sore throat, and nasal congestion.  If you or your child is showing any of these symptoms, please stay at homeContact your physician about treatment options.  For more information, contact your school nurse, Sharon Watts, RN at 903-729-1774 or the Northeast Texas Public Health District at 903-595-1350

Additional Title I Funding Survey Invitation

As many of you know, public schools who receive Title I funding have an opportunity to apply for stimulus monies. At Westwood ISD, we are definitely going to apply for these additional monies. One of the requirements for the application is that we comprehensively determine needs that meet with the Title I ARRA (stimulus) funding requirements using information gathered from school personnel, students, parents, and community members. The Region 7 Service Center has graciously created a survey for school districts to use to gather this needed information easily. It is a brief survey consisting of 22 questions. For those of you who like to leave comments on surveys, there is room for those as well. Below is the link to use to complete the survey.   You will most likely have to hold down the ‘CTRL’ key when you click on this link

Survey

Please complete this survey at your earliest convenience, but no later than May 22. Direct any questions you may have to Cindy Christian, Westwood ISD Curriculum Coordinator, at (903) 729-1776.

FERPA
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), a Federal law, requires that Westwood ISD, with certain exceptions, obtain your written consent prior to the disclosure of personally identifiable information from your child’s education records. However, Westwood ISD may disclose appropriately designated “discretionary information” without written consent, unless you have advised the District to the contrary in accordance with district procedures.
